Welcome to Humble Area Democrats
We are a group of Democrats in the Humble, Texas area… Humble, Houston, Atascocita, Huffman, & more… fighting to make life better for ALL people, not just the privileged few.
Our group of wonderful, engaged, and passionate volunteers work to promote and elect Democrats to public office. We participate in many activities include block walking, letter writing, phone & text banking, along with other activities within the community.
How We Began…
In 2012, Cody Pogue ran for Texas House of Representatives in House District 129, which represented Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood and parts of Huffman. While knocking on doors and attending events, people regularly whispered to him that they were one of the few Democrats in Humble. He quickly noticed that there were a lot of democrats in Humble, but everyone though they were the only ones, and many people seemed afraid to let anyone else know that they were Democrats.
During the campaign he opened up a field office where people met to make phone calls, write letters and organize block walks. The Harris County Democratic Party put an organizer in that Humble office and Democrats came out of the woodwork. In response, he promised to start a Humble Area Democrats Club after the campaign was over.
Cody ended up losing that election but kept his promise and started the Humble Area Democrats in 2013. The first year of meetings were held at the Atascocita Public Library on Pinehurst Trail Drive near West Lake Houston and FM 1960. Most meetings had between 10 and 15 people.
After the first year, Cody Pogue stepped down as the president and Patty Pinkley was elected as president of the club. Under her leadership, the club had lots of guest speakers, endorsed and campaigned in Humble ISD school board races, and tried out several meeting locations in the area. We soon figured out that Mexican Restaurants were an ideal place to meet.
Patty led the club for two years after which Carolyn Riggs was elected as president and remained president through 2021. John Cotter, the current president has been president since January 2022.
