Are you a proud advocate for our Greatest Generation? Those folks that fought fascism and tyranny around the globe in the 1940’s?
Are you in admire those that faced the most extreme conditions of prisoner of war camps?
Do you honor those that paid the ultimate price to defend democracy, to fight autocrats, to protect the vulnerable around the world?
Do you think we should provide great care for the troops when they come home from deployment?
These are all great questions, and I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of us that are reading this would say yes. These are not only the honorable, ethic and right things to do. They are the American thing to do.
Having said this, I am having extreme difficulty squaring why anyone that would answer yes to even one of the above questions would consider supporting Trump to be back in the White House.
He has said on multiple occasions that he would pardon those that tried to overthrow our democracy. These people are insurrectionists and traitors.
He said he doesn’t like troops that get captured. What the hell? Like these soldiers wanted to end up as POW’s.
He denigrated Gold Star families.
These are families that have lost loved ones that were serving our country.
In Trump’s Project 2025, it is recommended that the VA look for ways to cut disability benefits to veterans. They want to curtail the VA’s work and outsource veteran health care (ie: let a corporation make money off our troop’s injuries). They also want to kick out trans soldiers because they think they are not worthy to be soldiers. Additionally, he wants to use our US military against our own citizens if they are protesting.
And just this week, he crapped all over the graves of the soldiers in Arlington Cemetery. There is federal law that no campaigning can take place at the hollowed site. His goons and handlers pushed a cemetery staffer out of the way in order for Trump to desecrate those graves for a photo op.
So I ask you, why would anyone support this draft dodging, veteran denigrating, 1st Amendment hating convicted felon and (now) five times indicted criminal for any position in our government, let alone Commander in Chief?
I don’t know about you, but I like people that support the troops.
